Weeks 01/11 – 24/2016
Joe’s week began with a pin vs his Colonie opponent on Wednesday night. He continued his success at the Wrangle on the Plains Tournament at Shenendehowa on Friday and Saturday. Joe was 5-0 vs some of the best 220 pounders in the state. He began his weekend with a hard fought 8-6 decision over his Hilton opponent (Rochester) on Friday. On Saturday Joe needed overtime to defeat Caleb Null of Carthage for the second time this season. Joe’s biggest win came in his final match of the tournament as he avenged a loss to Garrick Golish of Ballston Spa. Again, Joe used his conditioning and overtime mat strategies of pull out an ultimate tiebreaker overtime victory. Great job Joe!!
Vincent defeated his Colonie opponent on Wednesday night to begin his undefeated week. He continued his achievements by being crowned the 170 pound champion at the Wrangle on the Plains Tournament at Shen over the weekend. His biggest win was avenging a loss to Niskayuna’s Jon Hyatt with a 7-2 decision. Vincent has had a very good year for a freshman competing in a weight class dominated by juniors and seniors. Keep up the good work Vincent!!
Mason earned 3 victories by pin at the JV All Comers Meet at Mohonasen on Thursday. This, coupled with a second place performance at the Colonie JV Tournament 2 weeks ago and a pin against Nisky last week, improve him to 6-1 in his last 7 matches. Great work for a sophomore competing in his first season on the mat. Way to go Mason!!
Harrison earns his Wrestler of the Week performance for his victory over his Columbia opponent on Thursday at the JV All Comers Meet at Mohonasen. He used 4 takedowns for an 8-2 victory at 170 pounds. Nice work Harrison!!
Weeks 01/04 – 10/2016
Jake earns his “Wrestler of the Week” award for his outstanding performance at the Oneonta Rotary Touranment over the weekend. He defeated all three of his opponents in the first period with two pins and an injury default. He only had to wrestle for 2:25 over the three matches. Jake also earned a first period pin in Wednesday night’s dual vs. Schenectady. Keep up the great work Jake!!
Sammy earned a huge come from behind victory on Wednesday night against Schenectady when he reversed Zachary Mandsager to his back and pinned him with only 20 seconds remaining in the match. He continued his excellent season with a 3 and 1, 3rd place performance, at the Oneonta Tournament over the weekend. He pinned 3 opponents on his way to the podium. Great job for an 8th grader in his second varsity season. Way to go Sam!!
Daquan began his undefeated week with a pin against his Schenectady opponent on Wednesday night. He continued his success with a championship performance at the Colonie JV Tournament on Saturday. He defeated 3 opponents with 2 pins and a decision. DQ improves his JV record to 6-2, along with multiple wins at the varsity level. Great Job Daquan!!
Weeks 12/28/2015 – 01/03/2016
Christian remained undefeated on the season going 7-0 at the Mountain Duals over the vacation. He earned impressive wins over Max Temple from AP (3-1) in a matchup of defending sectional champions. Chris also bumped up to 138 to earn an overtime win over a quality wrestler from Webster (Rochester). His efforts improved his record to 25-0 on the season. Excellent job Christian!!
Joe continued his winning ways with a 7-0 performance at the Mountain Duals. His biggest win of the tournament came with an overtime victory over Jacob Sweet of Brockport in the finals, 4-3. Joe remains undefeated on the season with a 25-0 record. He continues to dominant his opponents from the top position. This will help Joe as he looks to repeat as the Section II Champion. Keep up the good work Joe!!
Brandon earns this week’s Wrestler of the Week award for his 6-1 record at the Mountain Duals over the vacation. He got BH rolling vs Webster with a come from behind pin to help gain momentum going into the upperweights. This turned out to be huge in a match the Spartans won, 39-37. Brandon improved his record to 18-7 on the year. Keep up the good work Brandon!!
Weeks 12/14 – 27/2015
Kickstarted the team’s dual meet win vs. Ballston Spa with a last second pin in the opening bout of the dual. Continued his success through the weekend with four pins at the LVS Duals. Completed the week with a hard fought 6-0 win vs. Saratoga. Danny stands at 14–4 with (9) pins on the season. Great job Danny!
Vinny began the week with a 10-0 major decision vs. B-Spa. He followed that performance with a 5-0 record at the LVS Duals on the weekend. Vinny finished the first half of the season with a hard fought 9-3 decision over his Saratoga opponent, wrestling up two weight classes. Vinny stands 13–3 on the year with (6) pins. Great job Vinny!
Johnny opened his week with a win over his B-Spa opponent. He followed that up with 3 dominating pins at the Suburban Council All-Comers event. Great job Johnny!
Weeks 12/07 – 13/2015
Christian continued his winning ways with a 7-4 decision over Kevin Guardino of Shenendehowa on Wednesday night. He continued his Section II dominance with a 9-0 record at the Colonie duals over the weekend. His efforts earned him the MOST OUTSTANDING WRESTLER AWARD for the tournament. Christian remains undefeated on the season with an 11-0 record. Way to go Chris!!
Joe earned a first period pin over his Shenendehowa opponent on Wednesday night. He continued his solid start to his senior season with a 9-0 record at the Colonie Duals over the weekend. Joe’s biggest victory came with a 7-2 decision over Arugna Bello of Division, who is currently ranked first in Section 8 at 220 pounds. Joe improves to 11-0 on the year.
Earlier in the week Joe was recognized by New York Wrestling News as the #5 wrestler in the state at 220 pounds. This ranking included wrestlers from all divisions. Keep up the good work Joe!!
Cale earned a decision against Shenendehowa on Wednesday night, and continued his success at the Ballston Spa JV tournament on Saturday. He was 3-1 on the day with an exciting double overtime victory over his Amsterdam opponent, who was the eventual champion. Excellent job Cale. Keep up the hard work!!
Biruk was 3-1 at the Ballston Spa JV Tournament on Saturday at 160 pounds. He has shown tremendous improvements for a wrestler who has only been involved in the sport for just 4 weeks. In his first 3 tournaments of the season he has earned a 3rd, and two 2nd place finishes. Great start to your career Biruk! Keep up the hard work!!
Weeks 11/30 – 12/06/2015
Sam started off his second season on the varsity with a 15-3 major decision over his Shaker opponent on Wednesday night. He controlled the match from all three positions for the dominant win. This is a great start for a wrestler who is only an 8th grader!! Nice work Sam!
Nick started his wrestling career last weekend at the Queensbury JV Tournament. He won all 3 of his matches to earn the championship of the 182 pound bracket. Nick followed up his championship performance with a first period pin over his Shaker opponent on Wednesday night. Great start to the season Nick!!
Jakai began his first season on the JV level with a first place showing at last weekend’s Queensbury JV tournament. He followed up that performance with a second place finish at the BH JV tournament over the weekend. Jakai is off to a 5-1 start to begin his freshman campaign. Way to go Jakai!!
